Computer Reading Glasses
Why would anyone need special computer reading glasses? Because as you age the muscles that help adjust your focus get a little weaker. When you focus on close-up work such as reading and then try to shift your focus to your middle vision, which is where your computer screen is usually situated, it takes a while for those muscles to fully adjust. By wearing computer reading glasses that have the custom reading magnification you need on bottom and the optically correct setting for your middle vision on top, you relieve that eyestrain by letting the lenses do some of that work.
If you aren’t looking to buy expensive prescription glasses, then you’re in luck, because you can easily find computer glasses online. Just select the magnification power that’s best for you for reading books or magazines. You don’t need to worry about the middle vision adjustment, because the top part is automatically calibrated for that. As a rule of thumb, you can expect the strength on the top half of the lenses to be half of what you need for the bottom half. This is standard, but of course, if you need a more specialized combination in order to see with true clarity, then you may need to order prescription lenses instead of off-the-shelf eyeglasses.
Most reputable brands of computer readers will also feature an anti-glare coating. This is especially important because computer screens typically have a reflective surface, as do uncoated eyeglasses. Combine the two and you will get quite a bit of distraction in your field of vision. The anti-glare coating minimizes the reflections.
If you’ve ever experienced the achey feeling of eyestrain or gotten a full blown headache from staring at a computer for most of the day, then you will most likely benefit from a pair of high quality reading glasses.
